We studied the Four Forces of Flight: Thrust, Lift, Drag, Gravity. We built model airplanes that fly. Today we flew in a real airplane at a local airport! This is great! Life is good!

Rocket science is a project challenge unto itself. So goes the time honored expression. We use compressed air to fill a vessel designed to double as a rocket launcher support. We have an air pressure gauge to support the consistent independent variable logged as to launch energy. The gauge that used to register a maximum of forty pounds per square inch broke. The closest replacement we could find registers a…

The end goal is getting the rocket you design and build out in the air flying faster and farther. There are more ways to get there than I can imagine. Start with the four forces of flight. Consider Newton’s Laws. Go on to roll that paper into a tube just the right diameter. Get yourself some optimum fins for guidance and stability. Do not forget about the nose cone that…

There are levels of exciting activities that we engage at Academy Science. Bruce Tuckman and Mary Ann Jensen may have been thinking about our team when they present the group development model. We start out with forming, where we jump in as a team and get busy accomplishing those “day to day” tasks. Then we come upon those tasks where we get storming because we really need to address the…
