Grandpa says “There is more than one way to skin a cat!” I am not sure I ever understood all the nuances in that expression. Today is a big day. Let’s see how many chores we can get done this Independence Day “holiday!”
Let’s begin with the fresh hatch… Today they hang out as a group in a large tub. They have wood shavings on the tub floor, two feeder bowls, a large fresh water source and a moderate heat lamp. These chicks enjoy being handled and have devised a way for everyone to get attention… They line up at the near wall and look at you with pleading eyes. If that does not work well quickly enough, they jump into a food bowl and kick those expensive vegetable protein crumbles around.
We must move on to bath time. Show birds must be clean birds! It is time for these birds to clean up with bath water. Of course they all enjoy bath time! Meanwhile the “big birds” are outdoors dusting. Soon they too will get clean water bath time.
