I went to Google Scholar which led me to Ready.gov to learn more about Nature’s Fury and disasters. My science club is competing in First Lego League this year. The theme is “Nature’s Fury.” I want to research more about disasters in floods and tornadoes. Every year disasters victimize millions of people around the world and cost billions of dollars.
Floods:
Floods are one of the most common hazards in the United States. Flash floods can occur within a few minutes of excessive rainfall.
Tornadoes:
Tornadoes are nature’s most violent storms. Tornadoes can cause fatalities and devastate a neighborhood in seconds!
What can I do to prepare for floods and tornadoes?
All citizens need to have a personal disaster plan! Disaster preparedness can mitigate many of the negative consequences from disasters. To begin a good disaster plan, build an emergency kit and make a family communications plan. Stay higher than the floodwater and evacuate in a flood. Run for cover in a low spot to protect yourself from a tornado. It may take several days for emergency responders to reach you in a disaster.
Be Prepared!
